There are those that count dancers out as if it's not a real profession and it's all high kicks, turns and laughs, but go to a dance audition and you will see some people who work very hard on their art, and their dedication pays off in their performance. People will have a little sympathy for a singer whose voice cracks a bit during a performance because everybody thinks their kind of a good singer, but if you're going to call yourself a dancer, you'd better be able to dance the heck out of a Salsa or a Samba if you don't want to be looking goofy at dance auditions.
Even if you're not the master of the dance audition and you're barely starting out, that doesn't mean that you can't get one piece down pat and practice learning different rhythms and steps even outside of dance class. Seek out different dance clubs where you can experience various types of dancing styles. The people who are the most comfortable and experienced are the ones who are successful at a dance audition.
